Lake Keowee was created by Duke Energy in the 1970s to provide power to the Carolinas, as well as recreation opportunities for residents and visitors. The water level is kept within a specific range by drawing water from Lake Jocassee, located just north of Lake Keowee. This means the pristine, clear blue waters of Lake Keowee will continue to provide year-round enjoyment, year after year. Lake Keowee is twenty-six miles long with 300 miles of shoreline and twenty-four uninhabited islands that are available for picnics on the beach.
